Bayahibe, The
Dominican Republic

For pure Caribbean relaxation and unmatched
hospitality, we found the Sunscape Casa Del Mar
in Bayahibe, Dominican Republic to be almost
perfect for us. It is quite a long flight from San
Diego to Miami then to La Romana. We were tired but
happy when we saw that all our rooms were neatly
appointed with balconies and some had peak views of the
ocean.

The pool was huge and the beach was soft, white sand, and in late August 2003, the Caribbean was balmy 85 degrees.
The beach at the Casa Del Mar was pleasant for standing waist high and enjoying afternoon beverages. However, this
is not the Resort for you if topless sunbathing offends you. This resort had a large clientele of European guests
who regularly sunbathed and walked the beach topless, even guests I would venture to guess were my mother's age.
You could pick out the non-European male guests, they were the one's clutching the binoculars and cameras at the beach.

The food was good, bountiful and even the pickiest of
our eaters complimented most of the food but the Chinese
restaurant was our least favorite. However, take your
bug spray, the main dining room was not enclosed and it
can be a bit of walk from your building to the dining
room. Those mosquitoes were voracious!
Luckily, our research paid off. We knew that we would
hear room noise between the rooms. A few towels stuffed
in the adjoining room door at the crevice, solved that
problem. Some travelers advised ear plugs. But don't let
the little things get in the way of a great vacation.
We were constantly amazed by the graciousness of the
staff there. When it rained, they went out of their way
to humor us in the lobby.
My favorite part of the trip was the massage I had.
Friends purchased this for the "Group Trip Leader". It
was the first massage I ever had and I couldn't believe
I never indulged in this treat before. I was taken over
by the back of the Resort, over a little bridge and
running creek. Birds were chirping in the trees. Little
private cabanas were hidden in the back with white
curtains. I opted for an Aromatherapy massage. Birds
twittered in the background and the running water sound
was soothing. Only after I walked out on wobbly legs,
did I figure out that the bird sounds and running water
were enhanced by a tape recorder! You can opt for this
massage on the beach but the little private cabanas made
me feel like I was in tropical heaven.
